Roads by the Sea is a documentary series on the beaches around Athens. Over the course of four months, while living in Greece, I embarked on a journey driven by a fascination with the absence of human presence in landscapes that usually thrive with life. Each day, I set out on the road and found beaches which have become liminal spaces between civilization and the vast emptiness of the sea in the absence of the human presence. These places, though shaped by people, felt like monuments to solitude, evoking a quiet dialogue between consciousness and nature. The road, the act of traveling, and the arrival at these seemingly abandoned coastal edges all contributed to the experience of self-discovery and contemplation.
Ultimately, Roads by the Sea is an exploration of solitude, transition, and the unspoken stories embedded in earth’s landscapes. It is about the experience of wandering—of embracing the road as a means of thought, and of arriving at places that feel like the edge of the world, where land dissolves into water and time seems to stand still, or even more so - disappears. These landscapes remind us of how fleeting everything is and that humans are not masters of the world, but mere visitors in its vastness.
